In search of 'paradise'
September 23, 2014
How many of us are always in pursuit of 'paradise'? Trying to search for that piece of paradise that we think will make us happy, finally? After travelling for more than 4 years, now I have realised as much as the destination can make your mood, it lasts only temporary. In our busy lives, we are often distracted by so many things - errands to run, appointments to meet, holidays to go to, dates to attend, courses to learn.
I am definitely guilty of that. Moving from place to place, traveling and discovering new experiences, climbing new mountains, diving in different oceans, swimming in waterfalls, getting into new adventures. Then after a few weeks when I have finished 'discovering' a certain place, I sit down in my balcony and there is nothing to be distracted about. Only silence, peace and myself. My thoughts and my mind.
I have realised it is not the destination that matters. I have found many pieces of paradises, beautiful untouched white sandy beaches, crystal blue waters of underground rivers, lush bamboo forests of absolute zen. But what I have realised is I can never find that tranquility unless I have looked inside myself, to be at peace with who I am, and that is the real paradise and real happiness.
It's alright if you feel alone sometimes, or lost, or not know what is coming next, or whether you have enough work or money. It is a process and a journey where you see yourself evolve and find that nothing really matters. We are only transient. To be in the moment and to be at peace with yourself is really what matters.
