One of the few places in the world where bull sharks are known to gather, just a few hundred meters off one of the most popular beaches in Playa del Carmen where many tourists sunbathe and swim, we venture into the deep waters in search of an adventure. Bull Sharks commonly known as the 3rd most dangerous sharks in the world after the Great White and the Tiger Shark, often because of their unpredictable behaviour and their ability to live both in sea water and fresh water. We observe a symphony ballet of the sharks and also encounter a common practice by some of the dive shops in Playa del Carmen, a practice called 'chumming' to lure the sharks to this area. The attraction of these bull sharks as lured many divers to this area. Unfortunately, due to the lack of proper fishing laws, fishermen have known to fish out many of these bull sharks. Many NGOs, dive shops and other organizations in Playa del Carmen are trying to stop these fishing of the sharks. Please support shark conservation.
